FAQ's
and more.
Dance related question about the school.
QUESTION:
What age do I start my child in ballet?
ANSWER:
Children should not begin formal classical ballet training until
the age of seven. However, there is a lot of ground work that must
be laid first. We offer: * Kinderdance classes (Creative movement
classes for age talented and engaged three and four year old students)
* Pre Ballet classes (Preparatory class for ballet training).
QUESTION:
When should my daughter go on pointe.
ANSWER:
This is one of the most popular questions of all. All female dancers
aspire to wear pointe shoes and it can only be based on the individual
dancers progress and physical structure. A young dancers bones are
too soft and malleable before the age of ten to begin pointe work.
Long lasting damage can occur in the legs and back if the dancer
begins pointe work before her body is ready. A dancer is ready for
pointe work when she has built enough strength in the feet, legs
and abdominal muscles to sustain the technical demands classical
ballet places on the anatomy.
QUESTION:
Does the school engage in recitals?
ANSWER:
The Mill Ballet School does not engage in costly recitals. The emphasis
at the school is placed on teaching each and every student the art
of dance. Valuable classroom time is spent teaching the students
correct technique and terminology of the dance form. Spending time
on preparing a recital can set a child back in his/her training
since most classroom time is spent on learning a recital routine.
For parents and friends the school offers a two week in-class demonstration
period (held in June) where the students present their technique
and artistic achievements. (Thus avoiding the extreme expenses associated
with dance recitals).
QUESTION:
How are the Mill Ballet School and the Roxey Ballet Connected?
ANSWER:
The Roxey Ballet formerly "Hunterdon County Ballet"
is affiliated with but not financially connected to the Mill Ballet
School. Funds for this company are solely derived from the companies
own fundraising efforts, State and local grants, business and private
donors & Supporters. Dancers are chosen for the company through
an biannual public open audition held in March and August Roxey
Ballet formerly Hunterdon County Youth Ballet.
Each
year the Roxey Ballet performs the holiday classic The Nutcracker
choreographed and a spring full length ballet such as "Cinderella".
All casts are chosen by audition and include students from the Mill
Ballet and ballet schools throughout the Hunterdon / Bucks County
region (regardless of studio affiliation). All student dancers perform
with special guest professional dancers from our countries leading
ballet companies. There are many chances to perform in world class
productions if the dancers interest is sparked in this direction.
