About the Denise Alexander Scholarship Fund

Denise Alexander Male was a tap teacher at The Mill Ballet School for many years. She was a dancing diva who enlightened every soul whose path she crossed. Denise was inspired to follow her passions by her loving parents. An early love for dance paved the way as she twirled through Greenville High School and pirouetted into a Bachelor of Arts degree in dance and liberal arts at Denison University. After college, she tapped her way into a successful career as a dance educator, teaching at theater workshop for 25 years. She launched her own successful studio, Dance Sensations, in 1994. She performed in the New Jersey Tap Ensemble and the Mock Turtles Marionette Company, founded a dance program at Blair Academy, collaborated with Arts Genesis and directed the Northampton Martin Luther King celebration.

Last year Denise passed away after a courageous fight against cancer. In Denise's honor the school established the Denise Alexander Scholarship Fund so no child with the desire to dance will be turned away due to financial difficulty.

When one sees the smiles on the children's faces when they are dancing, it is hard to imagine a child not having the opportunity to dance. With contributions and fundraisers, we are able to assist those students or families that may need tuition assistance.

To make a contribution, please call the school at (609) 397-7244.

Before visiting the School we want you to know..

The "Mill" school is recognized as the leader in classical dance education and literacy programs for all ages and levels in the Delaware Valley.

The school staff is always striving to move dance in new and exciting directions while paying homage to past traditions of classical ballet training and performance. The school faculty consists of the finest faculty from the Country's top ballet and theater companies. Don't be fooled by other school's false claims and credentials - visit the Mill Ballet school and see first hand the magnificent cultural value the Mill Ballet School brings to all of it's students.

For our young students...

We strive to provide our students with self confidence, grace, coordination, musicality, discipline, focus and a complete and full appreciation of the arts as a whole. We encourage each dancer's individuality while reaching toward the highest standards in classical dance education.

The Mill Ballet School is not oriented towards costly recitals or competitions. Students will never work on a dance recital routine during class time. Rather, the faculty is focused on directing the dancer to compete within themselves to achieve a perfect balance of creativity, style, discipline, strength, and grace.

Students may be selected to perform in the many productions through an audition process.

Further, dance is a time honored transfer of information. As caretakers of the art of dance, the school faculty recognizes the importance of developing the artistic expression of each child. The goals set for each dancer begin with teaching the value of the performing arts and the vital role it plays in our lives. This focus is paramount to all dance education. In the end we hope that all of the school's students will grow to be life long supporters of the arts regardless of the paths they choose.

THE SCHOOL STRUCTURE is derived from the director Melissa Roxey's many years of study and performance careers with leading ballet companies and schools, including the School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theater, American Repertory Ballet,Dayton Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Harvard, North Carolina School of the Arts and Royal Ballet.

Melissa & Mark Roxey, founders and active directors of the school have successfully incorporated the latest and very best training methods and merged them together to create a progressive and effective training system where dancers can achieve their full potential in dance technique and artistry while nurturing love and appreciation of the art of dance. This has not only created life-long supporters of the arts but has produce many successful professional artists.

Our students have been successfully placed in the finest colleges, schools and dance organizations around the country including NYU, The New School, Penn State, Harvard University, Mercyhurst, Marymount, School of American Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Julliard, Boston Conservatory, School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theater and many more. The Mill Ballet School is the official school of the professional Roxey Ballet Company.
